The award-winning alto and soprano saxophonist and composer Martin Speake – a true inheritor of the lyrical, cool-school approach exemplified by improvisers such as Lee Konitz or Warne Marsh, yet with the rhythmic intensity of Ornette Coleman or Steve Coleman – unveils a new Anglo-American quartet featuring pianist Ethan Iverson (of The Bad Plus), bassist Fred Thomas and drummer James Maddren. Ethan Iverson’s most recent high-profile project was as the composer/arranger of ‘Pepperland’, the Mark Morris Dance Group’s 50th anniversary celebration of The Beatles’ Sgt Pepper album.
