Recently called “the hottest pianist in jazz” by the Guardian, Armenian born, US-educated Tigran Hamasyan has been a worldwide star since winning the prestigious Thelonious Monk prize at the age of sixteen. After establishing a recording career with Verve, ECM and Nonesuch, and collaborating with the biggest names in both US and European jazz, Tigran returned to Armenia and immersed himself in the folk traditions of his native country for the acclaimed choral work, ‘Luys i Luso’ (ECM). This rare solo performance, linked to a headlining date at London’s Barbican, will showcase Tigran’s incredible talents as pianist, vocalist and composer. His St George’s debut six years ago was a magical event that left the audience almost dizzy with the evidence of his genius.
