Beethoven+: 2

Part of Beethoven + Artists in our Midst

This event has passed.

BCP’s 15th anniversary series BEETHOVEN+ (all nine Beethoven symphonies over five concerts, each including a new work by a composer from the Bristol area) continues with Nos 2 and 7.

Beethoven’s 2nd Symphony is bursting with wit and originality, constantly wrong-footing any listener but charming them throughout. The 7th remains one of the most thrilling and popular works in the entire orchestral repertoire, from the relentless tread of its famous second movement (used in The King’s Speech) to the ecstatic outpouring of the finale with its whooping horns. Wagner called this work “the apotheosis of the dance” – and he was right! The evening begins with a performance of Dream Sequence: A Life on Repeat by Liam O’Connell.

Conductor Tom Gauterin
Leader Anneka Sutcliffe

Programme

O’Connell Dream Sequence
Beethoven Symphony No 2 in D Op 36
Beethoven Symphony No 7 in A Op 92

Now on sale: Don’t miss their performance of the universally-adored Symphony No 9 at Victoria Rooms on Saturday 21 June.
