Bence Ansien (premiere)

Bristol electro-acoustic composer John Bence joins forces with Cambridge chamber choir Concanenda to present the premiere of Ansien, a transformative new music experience that finds sound travelling and morphing in innovative ways. Ways of listening and the distinctions between acoustic and digital realms become reframed and reinvigorated across two of Bristol’s finest venues, as day becomes night across the city.

Part one sees the nine-piece Concanenda choir debut a new sacred choral piece written and scored by John Bence as well as a selection of other works here at St George’s.

For part two, we follow Bence to the intimate auditorium of The Cube cinema, where he presents a live electronic reimagining of the same piece, using samples of Concancenda recorded earlier that day.  Click here for more information about the second part and to book.

Bence’s unique performance concept is an exploration of how music can be transformed in different contexts, and how electronics can completely redesign recorded sound.
